Option 1: The Hike

Start at Parque Lage and climb through the rainforest of Tijuca National Park. It’s the most rewarding way up — and the quietest.

  • Time: about 6 hours total (3.4 km / 2.1 miles)
  • Level: moderate to hard — steep, hot and humid
  • Age: 14+
  • Includes: hotel pickup at 7:00 a.m. and about 40 minutes at the statue

Good to know: The trail ends at the upper gate, not at the statue. You pay aboutR55(≈US11) extra for a 5-minute van to the top. This is not included in the hike price.

Option 2: Guided Van Tour

No sweat, no stress. A local guide picks you up and drives you through the forest to the top.

Book early: The train runs on fixed times and often sells out in the high season.

Best for: travelers who like to plan their own day.

Top tips for any option

  • Go early. Clouds often cover the statue later in the day.
  • Check the weather the night before.
  • Bring water and sunscreen — Rio is warm all year and often 80–90°F (27–32°C) in summer.
  • Wear sneakers or hiking shoes, not flip-flops.
  • Carry some cash in reais for snacks and drinks at the top.

Is anything not included in the hike?
Just one thing: the trail ends near the top gate, and a 5-minute van takes you to the statue (about R55/US11, paid on the day).

The van tour (ages 5+) or the train (all ages). The hike is steep and only for ages 14+.

How long does the hike take?
